Coleen welcomed everyone and expressed gratitude to the committee members for their participation and commitment to EWTG. She explained that the purpose of this committee is to act as a sounding board, share professional development topics of interest important to their organizations, and provide input on past organizational activities that may have a bearing on current or future actions. The EWTG representatives and committee members provided short introductions.
Coleen discussed the 2026 theme: Embrace Your Power! This theme builds on the momentum of last yearās theme, Unite, Empower, Elevate, and was inspired by the closing panel she moderated at last yearās Annual Conference, titled āPowerhouse Leadership: Unite, Empower, and Elevate to New Heights.ā The panel included Lisa Craven, Heidi Murray, Steve Pier, Dr. Jennifer Shuford, and Jennifer Sims. After listening to these five phenomenal leaders share their experiences, one thing became clear: real leadership starts with recognizing your own power and choosing to own it. Read more here: https://ewtg.org/2026/03/27/ewtg-star-march-2026/#presidents_corner.
Coleen also discussed how the theme aligns with the priorities and goals she set for her two-year term as President. Her primary focus is to modernize our organization, strengthen partnerships, increase membership, expand outreach to affiliate chapters, and enhance member engagement. Coleen discussed the progress made during her first year term, including the launch of the new EWTG website and redesigned logo; adding more city/county employees and private partnerships to membership; adding a new student membership category for those interested in public service; establishing new regional affiliates in East, South, and North; and creating an Engagement Committee led by an EWTG Director dedicated to enhancing member engagement. One of her top priorities is to foster stronger connections among our members, partners, and communities. This committeeās input and participation are vital to our success. Together, we can identify opportunities, address challenges, and celebrate achievements to make our vision a reality. Read more here: https://ewtg.org/2026/01/29/ewtg-star-january-2026/#section1.
Terri then led the committee in a discussion focused on three questions to help determine the best ways to collaborate with the organizations to build a stronger, more vibrant EWTG, and how EWTG can help their organizations grow and succeed. The committee reviewed the 2025 notes as a starting point to determine whether anything needed to be added, removed, or changed. We selected two novels and are reading one or both of them. Join us on July 29!
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
From Amazon: Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.
Monique listens as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a real connection to the legendary star. As Evelynās story nears its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Moniqueās in tragic and irreversible ways.
Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke
From Amazon: Natalie lives a traditional lifestyle. Her charming farmhouse is rustic, her husband a handsome cowboy, her six children each more delightful than the last. So what if there are nannies and producers behind the scenes, her kitchen hiding industrial-grade fridges and ovens, her husband the heir to a political dynasty? What Natalieās followers, all 8 million of them, donāt know wonāt hurt them.
One morning, she wakes up in a life that isnāt hers. Her home, her husband, her childrenātheyāre all familiar, but somethingās off. Her kitchen is warmed by a sputtering fire rather than electricity, her children are dirty and strange, and her soft-handed husband is suddenly a competent farmer. When Natalie suffers a brutal injury in the woods, she realizes two things: This is not her beautiful life, and she must escape by any means possible.
The next book club meeting will be on Wednesday, July 29, at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. Future meeting dates are:

Speak! Public Speaking and Facilitation Success Team
At the June Speak! meeting, members shifted their focus from delivering presentations to preparing for them. Building on the group's recent experience developing a conference proposal, the discussion focused on what it takes to craft a strong presentation before the first slide is even designed.
Members explored the key components of a successful conference proposal, including writing a clear presentation purpose, developing meaningful learning objectives, crafting an engaging abstract, and preparing a professional speaker biography. The group also discussed Bloom's Taxonomy and how well-written learning objectives can shape both the presentation and the audience experience.
The conversation reinforced an important lesson for aspiring speakers: successful presentations begin long before the call for proposals is released. Preparing ideas, collecting stories and examples, and maintaining an up-to-date speaker biography can make it much easier to respond when speaking opportunities arise.
Our next Speak! meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 14, at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. Whether you are preparing for a conference, leading a meeting, or simply looking to become a more confident communicator, Speak! provides a welcoming environment for practicing, learning, and growing together.
