Stronger Together: EWTG Partnerships in Action

Partnerships expand what is possible for EWTG and our members. By connecting with organizations that share our commitment to leadership, professional growth, and public service, we open doors to new ideas, valuable resources, and meaningful relationships. From long-standing collaborators to exciting new connections, these partnerships strengthen our community and create more ways for members to learn, lead, and thrive.

Leadership Women

EWTG is proud to continue its enduring partnership with Leadership Women - a relationship that has flourished since EWTG’s earliest days. Through the EWTG Audrey Selden Leadership Women Scholarship Award, active members can pursue admission to Leadership Women’s Texas, America, or Pipeline programs. Our ā€œWe Leadā€ Success Team adds another powerful connection point by bringing EWTG and Leadership Women members together to build relationships and share experiences.

Texas Public Employees Association

A promising new collaboration is taking shape with the Texas Public Employees Association (TPEA). Earlier this year, EWTG leaders met with TPEA staff to explore ways our organizations can work together. That conversation is already creating momentum: TPEA staff are helping the EWTG Membership Committee plan several mini events for next year. To welcome more public-sector professionals into our community, EWTG is offering TPEA members a $10 discount when they join EWTG as new members, using promo code 2026TPEA, valid through December 31, 2026.

Project Management Institute Austin

EWTG also launched an exciting partnership with Project Management Institute Austin (PMI Austin). On October 2, EWTG President Coleen Hall, Conference Director Alida Bennett, and Deputy Conference Director Jennifer Chancellor-Hurd represented EWTG and hosted a table at PMI Austin’s Fall Professional Development Day at the Austin Marriott North in Round Rock. The partnership continues at the EWTG 40th Annual Professional Development Conference, where PMI Austin will host a table and connect with attendees. PMI Austin members who join EWTG as new members can receive a $10 EWTG membership discount with promo code 2026PMI, valid through December 31, 2026.

Conference Sponsors

Our partnerships also shine through the generous support of the sponsors who will help make the EWTG 40th Annual Professional Development Conference possible. We extend our sincere appreciation to Western Governors University for sponsoring the EWTG Woman of the Year Award, Accenture for providing complimentary professional headshots for attendees, and the Center for Women in Government at the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership at Texas Woman’s University for serving as a Gold Sponsor. Their investment in women’s leadership and professional growth strengthens the conference experience and advances EWTG’s mission. [Learn More]

Book Club Success Team

For our November 4 meeting, we decided to read a book that aligns with the EWTG annual conference theme, Embrace Your Power! All are welcome! Read one of these books or choose another that has inspired you. We’ll have a great discussion!Ā

BrenĆ© Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You AreĀ Ā

In The Gifts of Imperfection, BrenĆ© Brown, Ph.D., a leading expert on shame, authenticity, and belonging, shares what she’s learned from a decade of research on the power of Wholehearted Living – a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness. In her ten guideposts, Brown engages our minds, hearts, and spirits as she explores how we can cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, no matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough, and to go to bed at night thinking, yes, I am sometimes afraid, but I am also brave. And, yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am worthy of love and belonging.Ā

Valerie Jarrett, Finding My Voice: My Journey to the West Wing and the Path ForwardĀ

When Valerie Jarrett interviewed a promising young lawyer named Michelle Robinson in July 1991 for a job in Chicago city government, neither knew that it was the first step on a path that would end in the White House. Jarrett soon became Michelle and Barack Obama’s trusted personal adviser and family confidante. Jarrett grew up in Chicago in the 60s as racial and gender barriers were being challenged. She found her voice in Harold Washington’s historic administration, where she began a remarkable journey and became one of the most visible and influential African American women of the twenty-first century.Ā

From her work ensuring equality for women and girls, advancing civil rights, reforming our criminal justice system, and improving the lives of working families, to the real stories behind some of the most stirring moments of the Obama presidency, Jarrett shares her perspective on the importance of leadership and the responsibilities of citizenship in the twenty-first century, inspiring readers to lift their own voices.Ā

Tara Mohr, Playing Big: Practical Wisdom for Women Who Want to Speak Up, Create, and LeadĀ

In her coaching and programs for women, Tara Mohr saw women ā€œplaying smallā€ in their lives and careers, feeling frustrated, and wanting to ā€œplay bigger.ā€ She has devised a proven way for them to achieve their dreams by playing big from the inside out.

In the tradition of BrenĆ© Brown’s Daring Greatly, Playing Big offers real, practical tools to help women quiet self-doubt, identify their callings, ā€œunhookā€ from praise and criticism, unlearn counterproductive good girl habits, and take bold action. Not all women aspire to the corner office, but every woman aspires to something. Playing Big offers tools to help every woman play bigger—whether she’s an executive, community volunteer, artist, or stay-at-home mom.Ā

The next meeting is Wednesday, November 4, at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. To join the book club and receive an email about the next book we’ll discuss, please email communications@ewtg.org.Ā

Project Management Success Team

The Project Management Success Team met on September 22 to discuss Suppliers, Inputs, Processes, Outputs, and Customers (SIPOC) and value stream mapping (VSM) as Lean Six Sigma tools for project management, particularly in state government settings.Ā

SIPOC is a high-level process-mapping tool that identifies who provides resources or information, the major steps involved, the results produced, and who receives them. In state government project management, SIPOC can help teams define project scope and clarify how agency partners, required documents, and service recipients connect within a process.Ā

VSM provides a more detailed, end-to-end view of how work and information move through a process, including processing and waiting times. It helps teams identify bottlenecks, unnecessary handoffs, and rework, then design an improved future-state workflow. For example, a state agency could map an application review process to locate delays and opportunities to streamline service delivery while retaining required compliance steps. Together, SIPOC establishes process boundaries, while VSM reveals improvement opportunities within them.

Building on the September discussion, the Success Team’s final meeting of the year on December 1, at 12:00 p.m. will conclude this topic. The meeting is scheduled for December 1 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.Ā

The session gives participants a chance to strengthen their toolkits, sharpen their leadership, and connect with other women committed to operational excellence.Ā

The team continues building a community of project managers who deliver with intention — and lead with impact.Ā

Go Anyway Brunch Bunch Success Team

Hello, EWTG Go Anyway Brunch Bunch! Our upcoming brunch, themed ā€œHave a Merry Friendsmas,ā€ is on December 5 at 11:00 a.m. Let’s brunch together to celebrate our leadership accomplishments, reflect on the impact we have made, enjoy meaningful friendships we have cultivated, and enjoy great food. Throughout the year of themed brunches, we have bloomed, shined, and harvested our leadership journey. Leadership is not only about what we have accomplished but also how we celebrate, nurture relationships, and encourage others.Ā

The Brunch Bunch offers a great opportunity to network, connect with EWTG members, and try restaurants around Austin. We meet four times a year in an inviting environment that combines community with purpose, and we enjoy good food. Whether you're new to EWTG or have been a member for years, you'll find an open atmosphere that encourages friendly chats and helps nurture friendships.Ā Ā

Procurement & Contracting Success Team

The Procurement & Contracting Success Team is an insider network for women government professionals interested in procurement and contract management.Ā

At our October meeting, guest speaker Sophia Samuel, founder and CEO of Crescens Inc., presented, From Solicitation to Contract: A Vendor’s-Eye View. Sophia showed how vendors read agency language, such as fixed multiyear pricing and low markups, and why short timelines, extra registrations, and requests for reference letters lead many vendors to decide not to bid. It gave us a fresh look at the other side of the table.Ā

We do not meet in November, so our members have time to enjoy the EWTG Annual Conference. Our next meeting is Tuesday, December 15, at 5:30 p.m. Watch for more details soon.Ā

If you work in or adjacent to procurement and contracting and want to connect with women who understand the unique challenges of this field, join us! Email communications@ewtg.org for more information.Ā

New members are always welcome!Ā

Sole Mates Success Team

The Sole Mates Walking Success Team offers EWTG members an opportunity to connect while supporting physical well-being. Regular group walks foster community, strengthen shared purpose, and build meaningful professional relationships. Walking is also one of the simplest, most sustainable ways to support long-term health. For women leaders, making time for physical activity is essential for mental clarity, stress relief, and burnout prevention. With every step, we enjoy the simple pleasure of walking together while supporting wellness and community.Ā

The Sole Mates Success Team will take a winter break and resume activities in January. Thank you to everyone who joined us this year at Brushy Creek, Old Settlers Park, Mueller Lake Park, Spring Nature Park, and many other beautiful locations across the Austin area. Sole Mates welcomes all forms of physical activity, not just walking, so please share ideas for hiking, yoga, Zumba in the park, or any other activity that interests you. We look forward to an exciting new year!Ā

Community Service Committee - Community-Focused and Action-Oriented!

EWTG members and friends had the joy of joining the blood donation drive on Saturday, October 10 at We Are Blood. We toured the facility and learned how it all works. EWTG joined We Are Blood to help save lives. Our courageous blood donors were Coleen, Jennifer, Chan, Kari, Trina, my daughter Lilly, and me. Afterward, we joined the Pizza My Heart Success Team at Allday Pizza to refuel and recharge with great pizza and good company.

Friendly reminder of the toiletry drive. We are requesting and accepting travel-sized toiletries, including but not limited to shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, hair care products, feminine products, and lotion. Please bring and drop off items during the conference on November 8-9, at Kalahari Resorts and Convention.

The Community Service Committee is actively identifying and coordinating volunteer opportunities that encourage members to get involved, connect, and help meet community needs. The Committee invites EWTG members to come together in service, leadership, and purpose. Through meaningful volunteer opportunities, members can strengthen their leadership skills, build lasting partnerships, and make a positive difference in others' lives. As women leaders in government, we can create movement beyond our daily work by showing up, serving with intention, and supporting the communities where we live and serve. Together, we can turn compassion into action and continue building a committee that is community-focused, action-oriented, and inspired by collective service.

EWTG members are welcome to serve on the committee and are encouraged to participate in community service activities. Committee meetings are held monthly every third Tuesday. The next meeting will be on November 17 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
